Melatonin Use Has Benefits Beyond the Bedroom
Researchers at the University of Granada have found that melatonin — a powerful natural hormone well known for its ability to regulate our sleep cycles — has another wonderful health benefit. The other melatonin use, is it can help to control weight gain with no accompanying reduction in calorie consumption.
According to a review of the study (published in the Journal of Pineal Research) done by ScienceDaily:
[Melatonin] improves blood lipid profile, as it reduces triglycerides, and also increases HDL cholesterol and reduces LDL cholesterol. Melatonin is found in small quantities in some fruits and vegetables, such as mustard, Goji berries, almonds, sunflower seeds, cardamom, fennel, coriander, and cherries. Thus, the intake of this kind of food might help in controlling weight gain and preventing heart diseases associated with obesity and dyslipidemia.
Even eating small quantities of those foods, or taking a melatonin supplement, can give you a “powerful array of health benefits and promote deep sleep that is so critical to systemic repair functions throughout the body.”
